What is National Longevity Day?

As we all know, your health and lifestyle choices play a significant role in the quality of your life and the length of time you’re on Earth.

At the beginning of this month, Penguin Books contributed to the awareness of National Longevity Day – a national awareness day built around prosperous health – by publishing ‘The Longevity Diet’; a book written by Italian-American biologist Dr. Valter Longo, which mainly focuses on nutrition and how it determines how long and how well you live.

The whole purpose of this day is to get individuals thinking about overall health, living longer, lifestyle choices and living a happy life – all of which come with an array of benefits you can reap as a result of staying on top of your health, one of which being cheaper life insurance premiums – nice!

National Longevity Day is here to encourage you to delve deeper into the psychology behind the foods you’re choosing to eat, by taking a moment to question how it can affect your health and mind-set.

Living a Healthy Life

Due to improvements in lifestyle and healthcare, people are living longer today (if you want proof, there are currently 170 UK residents aged over 107!)

According to the NHS Eatwell Guide, to maintain a healthy weight and ensure a balanced diet to ultimately live longer, everyone should:

  • Eat plenty of fruit and veg
  • Base meals on starchy carbohydrates
  • Eat more fish (especially oily fish)
  • Cut down on saturated fat and sugar
  • Drink 6-8 glasses/cups of water a day
  • Avoid skipping breakfast
  • Be active and maintain a healthy weight

Feel free to use their BMI healthy weight calculator to find out if you are or your child is a healthy weight, to understand how BMI is calculated and get practical weight loss information.

Our advisors are also here to help guide you when it comes to life insurance, and they’ll be able to identify how premiums differ from provider to provider, depending on weight and health.

Get Affordable Life Insurance for Being Healthy

If you’re a healthy weight, a non-smoker and curious about how much your life insurance premiums may be, you could be in for a pleasant surprise regarding life cover. As well as looking after your health, life insurance is one of the most important investments you can make, as you’re protecting either your own financial future or that of your loved ones.

If you invest in life insurance when your health is practically perfect (by this we mean a great BMI reading, a non-smoker and not consuming alcohol regularly), your chances of obtaining a life insurance bargain are already boosted.

But don’t fret - it’s not impossible to take out a life insurance policy if you have a high BMI, or if you’re a smoker. Call our advisors today and they’ll be able to give you guidance on our life insurance providers and how they determine the amount you are ‘at-risk’.

Here at Quick Quote Protect, we always try to spread the message that being in good health could cut your life insurance premiums for policies such as income protection insurance, critical illness cover, and others - all of which can be discussed via calling one of our friendly advisors today.
